What is your impact initiative?
Farm produce is used in our outlets and other suppliers are all local. Onsite borehole where we source all of our water. Solar panels on our largest event space accounting for the hotel's average energy usage. Composting all food waste to return to the farm.
The impact your initiative has had:
By being able to bottle our own water on site, this drastically reduces our carbon footprint not only in deliveries but in bottle production as well. So much of our produce comes from our farm and what doesn't, comes from local suppliers, further reducing our climate impact. Having farm land and allotments on site, means that all of our composted food waste goes straight back into our crops for next time.
Have you observed any direct benefits to your business or organisation as a result of the initiative?
We receive a staggering amount of repeat business at Tewinbury, be it corporate or public, alongside consistent reviews of the stunning food we offer throughout the site. You just can't beat local - and where possible, home grown! - produce and our chefs celebrate this on the plate. Of course, this does come with cost saving as well as reduced carbon footprint due to reduced deliveries of food, and the borehole allows us to bottle our own pure still and sparkling water on site, avoiding the need to deliver in bottled water. Not only does this reduce the carbon footprint of the journeys themselves, but also the production of the packaging.
Have you observed any benefits to your visitors as a result of the initiative?
By making the most of farm and local produce, we provide a rounded experience of the Hertfordshire countryside in our food, nature and farm land. We welcome everyone to explore the stunning countryside on their doorstep and enjoy local produce either in our restaurant or from our Farm Shop. And as a dog friendly site, it's not just humans who receive a warm welcome!
