One in five tourists are influenced by what they see on screen in making their destination choice, providing a huge opportunity for Hertfordshire which features in a strong backlist of internationally recognised films and TV. Screen tourism offers Hertfordshire the opportunity to reach more elusive consumer segments, encouraging a younger audience to seek out landscape and heritage locations and enticing international visitors to go off the beaten track and therefore provide a catalyst to the recovery of the visitor economy across the whole county. Itinerary development and destination promotion connects film locations with town centres across Hertfordshire driving footfall and spend in these local communities to support recovery.
10 businesses from across Hertfordshire have secured an exciting opportunity to develop a range of new experiential screen tourism products as part of a brand-new Visit Herts Screen Tourism Development Programme.
The Screen Tourism Development Programme is part of the Visit Herts’ destination recovery strategy, delivered through the successful UK Community Renewal Fund Project, ‘Driving creative innovation and culture-led regeneration through the film industry’ which is funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund.
This new Screen Tourism development project is supporting 10 businesses in Hertfordshire to develop and launch new experiential screen tourism products to attract visitors, extend the tourism season and drive overnight visitation.
The organisations taking part in this programme are being supported to create new revenue streams to support business resilience, to attract new markets while increasing the length of stay and spend, and to encourage visitors throughout the year encouraging dispersal to less-visited areas across the county.
The 10 successful Hertfordshire organisations taking part in the Screen Tourism Development Programme are:
- Tewinbury Farm
- Tiny T’s Theatre
- The De Havilland Aircraft Trust
- King Bee Animation
- Tigz Rice Limited
- Treasure Map Trails
- Knebworth House, Park & Gardens
- Pendley Manor Hotel
- Ashlyns School
- Walk Wild
Visit Herts’ Screen Tourism Product Development programme will provide the expert advice and support needed to turn ideas into a new visitor product, ready to be taken to market. Those businesses taking part in the programme will benefit from an intensive package of support worth up to £25,000.
